Free ADHD Test for Adults
5 min read
ADHD in adults is far more common than most people realise. The World Health Organisation estimates 2.5–5% of adults worldwide live with ADHD — yet most were never diagnosed as children. This free screening uses the ASRS-v1.1, the gold-standard adult ADHD instrument developed alongside the WHO.
What is the ASRS-v1.1?
The Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale version 1.1 is an 18-question screening instrument developed by the WHO and leading ADHD researchers. It measures inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms in daily adult life. The first 6 questions form a validated screener — highly predictive of an ADHD diagnosis when scored positively. All 18 questions together provide a comprehensive picture of symptom severity across both dimensions.
Signs of ADHD in adults
Adult ADHD often looks different from childhood ADHD. Hyperactivity may manifest as inner restlessness rather than physical movement. Inattention may appear as chronic disorganisation, difficulty with time management, starting many projects and finishing few, and difficulty with tasks perceived as boring. Emotional dysregulation — particularly rejection-sensitive dysphoria — is increasingly recognised as a core feature of adult ADHD, affecting relationships and self-esteem profoundly.
How accurate is an online ADHD test?
Online ADHD screening tools cannot replace a clinical assessment by a qualified professional. However, validated tools like the ASRS-v1.1 are clinically meaningful: a positive screen on the first 6 questions has a sensitivity of 68.7% and specificity of 99.5% for predicting a formal ADHD diagnosis. A positive result is a strong reason to seek a professional evaluation, not a definitive label.
What happens after the test?
After completing the assessment you will receive a detailed breakdown of your scores across the inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity subscales, an indication of whether your pattern suggests a Predominantly Inattentive, Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive, or Combined presentation, and a personalised library of coping strategies matched to your subtype.
